Angie Potter was enjoying her stay at the Tawas Bay Beach Resort during a women’s softball tournament the weekend of September 7. That is, until an anti-lesbian thug who was also staying at the hotel grabbed her throat, leaving marks, while Angie was trying to enjoy her evening.
The hotel didn’t even call the police; Angie’s friend had to do that nearly an hour after the attack. When Angie found out her attacker was still staying at the hotel and asked the hotel management to do something to help her feel safe, Angie was told that she should leave.
In response, Angie and Triangle are holding a protest at the Tawas Bay Beach Resort, 300 E. Bay Street in East Tawas, from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. We will be demanding that the hotel issue Angie a public apology and that they refund her money.
Tawas police are still investigating the crime but have indicated that they believe it was indeed motivated by anti-GLBT hatred. We haven’t been notified of an arrest, but we will be working with Angie as she negotiates the legal system.
Check in for the protest is at 10 a.m. Please join us! For more information please contact Director of Victim Services Melissa Pope at email@example.com.
If you are ever a victim of anti-LGBT violence, harrassment, or discrimination, please call Triangle at 877-787-4264. We are here for you. For more information on our Victim Services or other programs visit www.tri.org.
